The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.
Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

Review
I don’t even know how to begin this review. The Night Circus is like nothing I have ever read before and I doubt I will encounter something of its caliber again. The basic plot of the novel revolves around a circus that is only open at night and seemingly comes from nowhere. Inside its gates are entertainers that you would have to see to believe and tents with interiors you couldn’t begin to fathom. The circus itself is a magical place, but it is merely a venue for a challenge between two illusionists and their students. However, it is a story about destiny and love as much as it is about magic.
Morgenstern’s vivid imagery and descriptions let the reader lose themselves in the magical world of Le Cirque des Reves and once they are immersed, they will not want to leave. The well-imagined story and the rounded and likeable characters add so much depth to the novel that it feels as though we are not just reading; we are actually interacting with the circus and its performers. Readers will revisit the book in order to lose themselves to the magical world within its pages. The Night Circus is thoroughly enchanting and is easily one of the best books of the year.
